If I had to list my favourite Barossa things, autumn would rank right up there. Endless big blue skies the backdrop to vineyards ablaze with autumnal colour. Warm sun on your back, and crisp nights just spot on for knocking back a good glass of red.
As far as favourite things to pour in that glass, I'd be reaching for something amongst the suite of classic Teusner reds that have been along for the ride since I kicked this caper off some 25 year ago. Either one of our Grenache blends Joshua and Avatar, or the Mataro we quietly refer to as The Dog Strangler....and of course Albert Shiraz.
A few years back, the 2021 vintage of Albert became one of James Halliday's favourite things. He gave it 99 points and stated without an ounce of uncertainty that "Barossa Valley shiraz doesn't come much better than this."
Of course this declaration of supreme Halliday brand favouratism made that wine the new favourite thing for a whole bunch of people. The warehouse was cleaned out in no time flat....but not before we managed to squirrel some away for a special day.
I'm about to release the 2023 Albert Shiraz - a stellar wine from a couple of cracking vineyards at Greenock and Ebenezer. So I thought I'd let a few bottles out the door early to our Righteous Society members, resting alongside a bottle of the ultra rare 2021 Albert drawn from our cellar. A bottle of the 2022 Albert (95 points from old mate Dave Brookes) completes an impressive line up spanning three very good Barossa Valley vintages
To fill out a six pack, I'm also tossing in a bottle each of the 2024 Joshua (95 pts, Halliday), 2024 Avatar (95 pts, Real Review) and 2022 Mataro (95 pts, Halliday).
Six wines all up priced at $290 including delivery, a saving of 21%.
