The accolades keep coming, with outstanding scores and reviews from some of the toughest in the business - this rare vineyard comes through again.
"New packaging for the Righteous wines. Looks good in a burgundy bottle too. But we're not here to look at that, are we? The Righteous wines have always been about the best parcels of fruit available. Here, it's a fruit-packed, single-vineyard mataro. Gorgeous ripe plum and dark berry fruits with some nice mataro garrigue and layers of exotic spice. Savoury and pure with tight, fine-grained tannin, some light floral facets and a lovely fruit presence and length of flavour. It's a beauty."

"This brings it all together. The fruit, the roasted meat, the ferrous notes and the spices. It’s delicious, it’s distinctive, it’s fine-grained and it’s lengthy. It delivers ample flavour but there’s a lightness of touch in play here. For the win. This is excellent."

"Opaque core into a deep ruby rim. Blackberry, mountain herbs and dry-aged beef on the nose. Medium to full in weight with a delicate lift that balances the concentrated dark fruits that power the core. Layered off that dark fruit we see bitter woody herbs and a dark meaty to bloody undertone. Powerful tannins bring tension and focus from the middle to the very long finish. Give it time in the cellar or decanter and serve alongside charred beef and you will be well rewarded."
From the highly lorded 2021 vintage, the Righteous Mataro
was sourced from vines planted at Moppa in the 1940’s. The
depleted calcareous subsoils found here are lean and bony,
naturally concentrating the fruit and assisting in driving a
dark/dense spectrum of flavours. Harvested on the 8th of
April, this parcel was fermented in a small open fermenter
with the inclusion of whole-berries encouraged. After 9 days
on skins with twice daily pump-overs, this batch was gently
pressed then racked to large format French oak. After 8
months, select barrels were blended then further seasoned
in second and third use puncheons for 12 months prior to
final assemblage and bottling. The combination of finesse
and spice driven complexity elevated this parcel to what
we consider to be Righteous worthy and a standout of
the vintage.
