Block K, positioned at the vineyard’s highest point overlooking Greenock Creek, was harvested on March 17th, followed eight days later by Block E, contour planted along the creek line.

Background Spiel

The 2022 vintage delivered fruit of striking purity and
structure from the Wilksch Vineyard at Seppeltsfield, with
this release sourced from two adjacent Shiraz blocks within
this single vineyard site. Block K, positioned at the vineyard’s
highest point overlooking Greenock Creek, was harvested
on March 17th, followed eight days later by Block E, contour
planted along the creek line.
Each block was fermented separately to preserve site
detail and individual character. Open fermented at cool
temperatures with a generous proportion of whole berries
retained, the parcels underwent gentle hand pump-overs to
build tannin shape and aromatic precision. Block E remained
on skins for 12 days, bringing breadth and structure, whilst
Block K saw a shorter eight-day maceration to preserve
natural lift and vibrancy.
Maturation took place in a curated selection of finegrained
French oak barrels, with a restrained 38% new
oak component selected to support rather than dominate
the wine’s architecture. Following barrel assessment and
blending, the final wine reflects the strength of a single
vineyard expressed through two closely aligned blocks –
composed, detailed and built for longevity.
